Michiel is the voice of the NL Digital Infrastructure sector with extensive knowledge of XaaS, hosting and datacenter sectors.
Michiel is a true digital native with 35 years of international experience in IT, the online industry, and public affairs. He is director of DINL, the Dutch Digital Infrastructure Association and former director of the DHPA (Dutch Hosting Provider Association). In this capacity he acts as the voice and face of companies and organisations facilitating the Internet economy, such as Datacenters, hosters and cloud service providers, registrars and Internet exchanges. He introduced the "Third Mainport" concept as the metaphor for the NL digital infrastructure, now widely recognized by politics, government and NGO's as a key ecosystem for the digital society and a requirement for digital transformation. Michiel frequently appears in national media, panels or as keynote or chair on events. He writes and speaks with passion about the ins and outs of the Dutch online sector and its impact on economy and society. Michiel advises and coaches executives of service providers with their strategy, business innovation, maturity and performance.
Michiel started his career as an electronics and software engineer and held engineering and management positions in various startups, scale-ups and International consulting companies. As the CTO of a managed hosting company he designed and developed a successful platform-as a service offering, hosting mission critical applications. He has both executive and in-depth operational expertise of the business- and operational aspects of service providers. Michiel joined TD Shepherd & Co as an Associate Director for the “As-a-Service”-businesses, hosting, datacenter and communication industry. Given his extensive operational and strategic knowledge and expertise and international network, Michiel is in an excellent position to support TD Shepherd’s customers in taking the next step.
